The Ministry of Economy announced, “In response to complaints received by the Ministry regarding a café in Beirut adopting exaggerated pricing, Consumer Protection Authority inspectors immediately moved to the place, and after conducting the necessary examination, an arrest report was organized against the institution concerned to record serious pricing violations.”
Based on its slogan, “Every Citizen is a Watchdog,” the Ministry affirms its appreciation for citizens who are keen to protect consumer rights and preserve Lebanon’s image and tourist season, stressing the continued intensification of its supervisory measures to protect the consumer and control the market.
Accordingly, the file will be referred next Monday, during official working hours, to the Financial Public Prosecution to take the legal action and request the application of the maximum penalties permitted by law against violators.
The Ministry also indicates that, after the House of Representatives approved the new Consumer Protection Law, it is awaiting its publication in the Official Gazette and its entry into force, which will grant its monitors the status of a judicial police and allow the names of repeat violators to be published in accordance with legal principles.
